Minnie Tote Bag
It's been one of the most crazy stressful weeks. One semi-stressful activity was making totes with my Young Women. Teaching 12 young girls who have never sewn before how to put together a simple tote for their mothers was a bit more challenging than I thought. My perfectionism was making me cringe but in the end they did a pretty awesome job. They loved it and asked if we could make them again and possibly do another sewing project.
I was given a canvas paint drop cloth and told to keep it simple. This is the sample tote I came up with. I made it for my daughter for our upcoming trip to Disneyland. I still need to make my son one as well. I lined the inside with the same polka dot fabric I used on the handles. The tote is made out of two 11X26 inch rectangles and the handles are 17 inches long. I cut the head out using my Cricut and freezer paper and painted it on the canvas. I then cut the bow out of fabric and sewed it on.
For the bags the girls made we used thick ribbon for the handles. Instead of the Minnie we just made felt bows using this tutorial. We glued them onto pins and added them where the handles meet the bag.
I'm doing nothing but cleaning the house, playing with my kids, and crafting it up this week. I'm going for a small slice of heaven to even out the stressfulness. More Disney, a few baby gifts, and a teachers gift coming on up. :)
This is so sweety. Congrulations for idea!
