Try Something New- Recipes

For those of you who just started reading my blog I made a goal to try something new every week. That involves trying at least one new recipe weekly as well. Thus my food ramblings begin...

My husband is really into trying new foods from around the world. I do not like seafood which limits recipe options and his enthusiasm. Sorry dear (he's just thankful I'll touch pork now). From The Complete Asian Cookbook I made Suan-la Tang (a.k.a. a hot and sour soup). It had a lot of ingredients I've never used before and my hubs and dad were playing fix it men while I was trying to rein in the kids and make dinner. Tricky stuff. I did mess up on one step and saw a 6 in front of cellophane noodles so I just added the whole 6 oz package. It turned out to be too much and checking back it said 60 grams which would be a third of the package. It was extra noodley and pretty yummy but not something I'll be making again anytime soon.

I'm not sure of cookbook/recipe sharing etiquette so we'll just move on...

We hosted a get together this weekend and had some of our most adored friends over. One of the couples is moving soon (weep...openly) so it was a last hoorah before they jet off to live next to our favorite destination, Disneyland. Lucky!

I started the food making process two hours before they'd arrive and of course wasn't finished when the first few fabulous people showed up. So like me. Thus the mess. If I was on Iron Chef I'd lose just from my horrendous plating. What would Jeffry say?

Anyway, the cucumber sandwiches  and cranberry-orange scones I've made before. The new recipe was the Italian Stuffed Jalapenos. Total man food. They were a bit too hot for a couple of us ladies but that didn't stop us from going back for more. My hubs did the shopping for me and I lacked specification so he bought the hot italian sausage. I'll have to try them again on game day with the mild.

Wow, do you see what happens when I don't post in awhile? Total novel for you to skip on over. Go ahead, I have better things to be doing right now too. But alas I keep on rambling.

Tonight's dinner was a huge home run. When your skinny man husband goes back multiple times and ends up eating six tacos you know it's a keeper. Sweet pork tacos with cilantro lime slaw. Even my anti-pork self was impressed. Any recipe that calls for Dr. Pepper you know is going to be heaven sent. ;) I did a half recipe for my little family and we still had leftovers.

Before and after pics coming up soon!

  1. Everything looks great! I made the same goal for our family this year. Unfortunately I'm much more adventurous with the cooking than I am with the eating, so the hubby ends up being the only one trying anything. Thanks for the inspiration though!

  2. I enjoyed your ramblings ;) The taco's look awesome!! I'm not so sure about the soup, and I like hot stuff (usually) so the jalapenos look yummy :)
