Button Heart Pillows

I finally finished my heart pillow covers for my mom and mom-in-law for Valentine's Day, woohoo! And only five days into February! That's got to be a record for me. I rock at procrastinating. :)

Below are some photos and a quick "how to."

Supplies needed-

Fabric -1/2 to 3/4 a yard of main fabric (depending on size of pillow form) & two matching scraps of fabric.
Needle
Thread
Buttons
Scissors
Iron
No Sew Heat n' Bond
Pattern (I just did the ol' fold a paper in half and cut out a heart)
Sewing Machine

Cut out two hearts- one smaller then the other on regular paper for your pattern. Choose your fabric for the heart applique. Apply the Heat n' Bond according to the directions on the package to the selected fabric and then cut them out. Iron them onto your base (mine is 15X15 for a 14X14 inch pillow form). Figure out a pattern you like with your buttons and start sewing them on with a needle and thread. I then made an envelope pillow cover. If your not sure how to do so check out this video I found to be helpful.

Here is what it looks like finished. The buttons sewing is time consuming but it's a simple and relatively inexpensive project.
I also made one of just buttons. Use your paper pattern to lightly draw a heart on your fabric and then fill it in with buttons. Easy-peasy.
I purchased two packages of 300 red buttons for these projects and ended up using half of the first bag. Silly me.

Now I can get to the rest of my V-day decor. See you again soon!

  2. CUTE! I love these both! I think I might have to copy your pillow with the smaller heart - I love it's simplicity. I also really like the shape of the hearts you chose - a lot of the ones I've been seeing around are a little narrow for my taste - these are perfect! Thanks for linking up on my throw pillow round-up!
